The new thixotropic mud, also known as antifriction mud, is developed by The Balsam Laboratory Company. and can be used in pipe jacking and shield construction to lubricate and reduce resistance, support stratum and inhibit settlement. The new thixotropic mud is colloidal liquid when being pumped and has fluidity. It is gel jelly after standing for a period of time. The use of ordinary grouting pumps cannot meet the requirements of site construction.

In view of the characteristics of the new thixotropic mud, we designed the prototype of the new thixotropic mud pump after comprehensively considering the complexity of underground construction, technical parameter requirements, civilized construction requirements and site requirements. The pump has automatic control function; Equipped with torque sensor, it can automatically mix thixotropic mud that meets the requirements; The mixing box is integrated, which is compact and occupies a small area on the premise of meeting the use requirements. The raw materials of the pump are easy to add and meet the requirements of civilized construction. After repeated discussion and experimental demonstration, the final design of the new thixotropic mud pump was finally determined. In this feeding test run, we produced about one cubic meter of new thixotropic mud on site. During the test run, the mud injection is smooth, the action meets the requirements, and the automatic control system is stable, meeting the acceptance requirements.
